The largest Genshin Impact leak aggregate in the Western community has been forced to make changes after receiving a high number of notices for infringing content. The notices are believed to have come from either developer Hoyoverse or publisher Cognosphere. The Genshin Impact leaks subreddit, which has 393,000 followers, announced a mandatory shift to hosting images of leaks externally rather than directly attaching them to posts.
The moderators of the subreddit acknowledged that this change would negatively impact the viewing experience and could push some users away from the subreddit. However, they emphasized that it was necessary to avoid the risk of any legal action being taken against them. They also stated that further changes might be necessary in the future.
This is not the first time that Genshin Impact’s creators have taken action against leakers or the subreddit. However, this change in the sharing of leaks marks a significant development in the quiet legal battle over pre-release details. Although it is unlikely that leaks will ever disappear completely, the steady stream of unofficial information seems to be slowing down gradually.
In the past six months, Hoyoverse sent its lawyers after Genshin’s biggest Western leaker, who has since dropped out of the scene entirely. However, this did not stop an enormous leak of future characters from occurring shortly after.
The Genshin Impact leaks subreddit is still accepting new posts about leaks, but they must now be tied to a social media or image hosting site before they can be shared. The moderators have promised to provide further updates if there are any further developments.
