Lightspeed Studios and Will Smith have joined forces to create Undawn, a free-to-play open world survival shooter. Smith is known for his acting career and has starred in multiple films that have earned nearly $9 billion worldwide. This is his first major role in a video game, and it’s a bit surprising that he is the face of a free-to-play mobile shooter. Undawn was originally called Dawn Awakening and was first announced in 2019. It will be released on June 15, 2021, for mobile devices and PC.

The Post-Apocalyptic World of Undawn

Undawn takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where survivors have formed different factions, each with their own rules of survival. Players will encounter legendary survivor Trey Jones, played by Will Smith, who will act as a guide to help other survivors navigate the world four years after a global disaster. The game features shooting, monsters, resource gathering, base building, and vehicles. The official site offers pre-registration rewards, such as consumables and various types of in-game currency.

It’s unclear what the actual gameplay will entail, but the Steam page shows a cluttered mobile game HUD, which may not be enjoyable on PC. Smith’s character in the trailer looks like his character Robert Neville from the 2007 zombie apocalypse film I Am Legend. It’s strange that Smith’s character doesn’t speak or make any noises while running, sliding, and bashing monsters, which leads to suspicions that he only lent his looks to the game.

Undawn has the potential to be a unique and exciting addition to the survival shooter genre. The collaboration between Lightspeed Studios and Will Smith is unexpected, but it will undoubtedly generate a lot of interest and curiosity from gamers. The game’s release is highly anticipated, and it will be interesting to see how the game performs after its release.
